Structural Composition and Key Designs
A Single Lane Bailey steel Bridge consists of four core systems. The components are standardized, highly interchangeable, and can be assembled without welding:
Main Girder System
The core is two parallel Bailey truss sections, fixed at their spacing by support frames and transverse connecting rods to form an integral load-bearing main girder.
- Compact Type 200: Truss height 1.2m, chord members are double 10# channel steel, web members are 8# I-beams, suitable for small to medium spans;
- Type 321: Truss height 1.5m, with greater section stiffness. For heavy-load scenarios, double-layer truss sections can be stacked to increase load-bearing capacity.
Bridge Deck System
- Crossbeams: Spacing 1.5m, using No. 16 I-beams, fixed to the lower chord of the Bailey bridge panels with clamps;
- Bridge Deck Panels: Anti-slip patterned steel plates or prefabricated steel bridge deck panels, bolted together to prevent vehicle slippage;
- Wheel Guard Timber: Arranged along both sides of the bridge deck, ≥15cm high, to prevent vehicles from overturning or falling off the bridge.
Connecting System
Includes wind-resistant tie rods and longitudinal limiting devices to enhance the overall stability of the bridge and prevent lateral displacement caused by wind loads or vehicle braking. In windy areas, denser installation is required.
Auxiliary System
Includes end columns, bridge abutments, bearings, anchor bolts, etc. Bearings can be plate rubber bearings or steel bearings. Foundations are suitable for concrete abutments, masonry abutments, or temporary steel piers.

- Temporary construction bridge: Used as a temporary bridge for construction personnel and light machinery during water conservancy, highway, and railway construction.
- Temporary rural road bridge: Used for temporary repair of washed-out rural road bridges, solving basic traffic problems.
- Special transport of heavy equipment: providing temporary dedicated single-lane lanes for the transport of large items on specific routes.
