What It Is
A load-tested bailey bridge is one that has been physically loaded before shipment or before handover. Not calculated - measured. We stack sandbags and drive counterweight trucks onto the span in stages. At each stage, we record deflection and strain at critical nodes. The bridge takes the load. We watch how much it moves, whether pins shift, whether chords creak. All of it goes into a file. Every load-tested bailey bridge from Jiangsu Jiuzhou Bridge Engineering Co., Ltd. ships with a measured data report.
How Testing Runs
Testing happens twice. First at the factory. Panels are assembled into a girder section and loaded on a test bed. Bending and shear are applied separately. Test load runs at 1.2 to 1.5 times the design load. Pin joints are checked for shear. Bolted joints are checked for tension. Second, on site. After erection, a loaded truck steps across the span - empty, full, overloaded. We stop at each step. Measure deflection. Measure pin clearance. Measure bolt torque. A pin that passed at the factory gets checked again after installation.
Structure & Test Points
Load testing targets the weak spots. A bailey bridge has three: pin holes, male-female lug contact faces, and transom clamp bolts. Pin holes enlarge under repeated loading. We measure the hole diameter change. Lug faces can seize under high load. We measure disassembly resistance. Clamp bolts loosen under vibration. We measure torque loss. The test is not about pressing the whole bridge. It is about pressing these three points. If they hold, the bridge holds.
Test Parameters
Test load level: 1.2× design load (routine) / 1.5× (overload verification)
Loading method: Staged, each stage held 5–10 minutes
Deflection limit: Mid-span deflection ≤ L/400
Pin hole deformation limit: ≤ 0.5mm
Bolt torque loss limit: ≤ 10% of initial torque
Reference standards: AASHTO LRFD, IRC 6, BS 5400
Load classes covered: Auto-10 to Trailer-80, HS15 to HS25
Report contents: Load-deflection curve, pin displacement record, node strain data
Factory test lead time: 3–5 working days per batch
Where It Goes
A load-tested bailey bridge goes where failure is not an option. Emergency access - no time for a second inspection. Mining haul roads - a single truck runs tens of tons. Municipal river crossings - people and equipment below. For these three, we ship the test-reported batch by default. Third-party witnessed testing is available on request. We load, record, and issue the report.
