Product Introduction
Moving a transformer or a boiler module to a power-plant site is a different problem from moving a truckload of gravel. The loads are huge, concentrated and awkward, and there is usually no way to split them or send them around. That is where the heavy haul bailey bridge for oversize truck earns its keep.
We build this version to carry the axle loads and gross weights that come with plant, transformer, boiler and prefabricated-module transport. A standard Bailey is rated for ordinary highway trucks; this one steps up to double- or triple-truss arrangements, reinforced chords, heavy deck panels and stiffened transoms. That lets permitted oversize loads cross without the transport company having to break the load apart or send it on a long detour.
We size each bridge to the permit loads of the specific job. Quite often that means axle weights of 16–20 tonnes per line and total gross weights of 100–300 tonnes. You will see these crossings on power-plant, refinery and industrial construction sites, anywhere an oversized module has to reach the site over a temporary bridge.
Features
Designed around the project's specific oversize load configuration. The heavy haul bailey bridge for oversize truck makes this practical.
Double or triple truss with reinforced chords.
Heavy deck and close-spaced transoms.
Abutment and bearing design matched to concentrated loads.
Load test is typically performed before the heavy crossing.
Modular panels can be repurposed after the haul is done.
Working Principle
This bridge works as a deep parallel-chord system, but the detail that matters for oversize moves is how the load gets into it. The heavy deck panels and the closely spaced transoms take the wheel and axle loads first. Because the transoms sit closer together than on a standard span, the deck moments stay small and each panel node picks up a more even share of the force. The heavy haul bailey bridge for oversize truck is built for this.
The reinforcing chords do the heavy lifting at mid-span, raising the bending resistance where the moment is highest. With a double or triple truss, the vertical reaction is shared across many more members, so no single chord is overworked. Before the real crossing we usually run a load test with a pre-arranged vehicle configuration that matches the permit. Once that is done, the bridge is restricted to the specified axle weights and travel speed for the actual move.
Applications
These bridges mainly serve power-plant, refinery, chemical-plant and renewable-energy construction, where transformers, boiler modules, wind-tower sections or heavy vessels have to reach the site. We also use them on bridge-replacement projects where the haul route crosses a temporary bridge, and on mining and quarry sites where heavy dump trucks and excavators move between pits and processing plants. The heavy haul bailey bridge for oversize truck is built for this.
